June 2006 at Four Seasons...4 questions

My husband and I are considering 4 days at the Four Seasons Punta Mita in mid-June. I've read every relevant thread on this, and other, sites and still have some questions.

1. Can you safely walk from the FS to the town of Punta Mita for dinner, or is it best to have a taxi or rental car. I loved all the Punta Mita restaurant recommendations and want to take advantage of them. Also, does the FS still have the flat rate dinner (not the same as the meal plan).

2. We plan on relaxing, not much sight seeing so probably won't rent a car this time. How much for the FS to transport you from the airport? How much for a taxi?

3. The garden view rooms are the least expensive, but are they on the ground floor in high traffic areas? We want our privacy, but not willing to pay the cost of ocean view this time.

4. How do you get the "honeymoon treatment"? We stayed at a luxury resort next to the FS in Maui (FS was booked) for our honeymoon and they didn't treat us special at all. Even when we reminded them it was our honeymoon, we didn't special treatment others did (upgrades, champagne, etc). It's our 1st anniversary and I really want to make up for the disappointing service on our honeymoon.

THANK YOU for all your help!

Hi,
This is a good choice! Yes, you can safely walk to Punta Mita from the FS...it is about a mile, though, and when we went in late July it was so hot that that long of a walk was out of the question...
Be prepared, the town of Punta Mita is less than advertised, though going there for a less expensive meal is a good idea...
As for getting good treatment, I'd contact the hotel directly with your questions, and kind of establish a "relationship" with the front desk or concierge...for instance, telling them you stayed at the FS in Maui for your honeymoon, how much you're looking forward to your trip, etc...
The garden rooms should be fine for privacy, by the way.
Have a wonderful trip, and please tell us how you liked it! I'll bet their service beats the Maui hotel!

If you are considering mid-June I would book asap, this property fills up often! The one mile walk from the resort lobby to the town is mostly within the resort gates (it is going to be a huge property with several other hotels when fully developed), once you leave the resort it is only two blocks to town. What we did is take the golf shuttle and ask them to drop us off at the gates, then only a short walk. When you return, the security guard is happy to call transportation if you don't want to walk all that way. The FS transport from the airport is one of the most pricey aspects and one of my few complaints. For $160 roundtrip we got a guy in a shuttle van who didn't even say a word to us. I thought for that price we should at least have a nice car. I'd negotiate for a taxi. All the garden view rooms are on the ground floor and there really aren't any "high traffic areas". However, if you really want privacy, ask for a room in one of the buildings that is far from the main building. But keep in mind some of these buildings are quite far away and will mean significant walking. We e-mailed the concierge in advance and told them it was a special occasion. We received an upgraded room, champage, cake and chocolate covered strawberries and an invitation to the manager's cocktail party. We had developed a relationship with the concierge prior to the visit due to arrangement requests. Consider dinner on The Rock, a very special experience (arrangements must be made prior to arrival, they get booked up).

Thank you Frankie and Eileen. We really want to snorkle, so now we are looking at the other coast (Playa De Carmen) too. I appreciate all your help! I'll definitely post a trip report no matter where I go!

OK. After much research...we decided to book 4 days at the new Fairmont Myakoba in Playa de Carmen. It is opening in April, but is already booked to mid June...so we are going on the 12th. It looks so beautiful! Beach, spa, golf, jungle, a responsive concierge...I think we have a great choice. Will post a review after our trip.

Hi: Good luck in Playa del Carmen. I was there a few years ago, lovely town then -- i do not recall snorkeling at playa del carmen - but the ferry to cozumel would bring you to (at least then -- now after hurricaines - i'm not sure) very nice snorkeling trips. I also hope hotel meets your expectations -- because - there is really no equivalent for the "quality" which the four seasons brings to a hotel experience.
