Isla Mujeres advice

My wife and I are leaving next week on our fourth trip to Cancun and we want to spend one entire day on Isla Mujeres. We've been to Isla once before and spent most of our time on Playa Norte. I'm looking for suggestions on fun activities, must see sites, and good restaurants. Should we rent mo-peds to drive around the island?? If so, where should we rent them and what should we expect?? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Excellent and very active board to seek info from is www.isla-mujeres.net. I don't remember being able to rent mopeds but they do have electric golf carts that are rented by the hour or the day. Very worth while!!! You can see the whole island in no time at all. Some very nice restaurants .. The French Bistro, Rolandi's, Nablam Hotel has a great one as well....if you go to this site and ask questions, you will get a ton of answers. Have a great trip.

when my girlfriend and i were there we rented mopeds. it only takes about 1/2 and hour to go around the island, so you may not think it is worthwhile (or at the very least 2-3 hours will be plenty of time).

To dmotl...did you come across any places in Isla where one might consider an extended vacation - several weeks perhaps? with kitchen, pool etc. and fairly reasonable?

Rooms with kitchens are avaiable at Francis Arlene for around $40

Rooms with kithchen A/C and TV are available at Maria Latisha for $25-$35.

Both are in the Centro Area but have no pools.

If you need a pool their are some places on the south end. Visit isla-mujeres.net click on places to stay
Also print out the lodging map so you can see where the hotel is at. If you stay on the south end you will incure additional transportation costs to get to Centro.

Anybody stayed at hotel that opened earlier this year on Isla Mujeres? Read about it on Frommer's website last month --- think it's called Avalon.
Almost everyone rents a golf cart for the day. A tour of the island is like one big loop - but lots of places to stop along the way...including the turtle farm, Gran Castillo for great snorkeling, and the tip of the island (they charge admission now but you really don't need to go past the gate to take in the incredible view). Do not rent your cart from the folks near the ferry or right in-town. Walk through the town (4 blocks probably) and head toward Francis Arlene. The place across the street from this hotel had best rates. Owner from Red Eye Cafe recommended them to us. Have fun!
