Hurricaines in Cancun
Last time I went to Cancun, hurricaine Isidore booked it's trip the same time that I did! We wern't even allowed on the beach the whole time... except for the last day which was gorgeous enough to persuade me to go back. I'd like to avoid hurricaines this year, so when would be the best time to go? I have from now till January But I start school in mid October. Any suggestions?

Actually the Caribbean Hurricane Season officially runs from June 1 through November 30. Historically the most active period for major storms has been September 1 through October 15. The further away from those dates the better your odd of not encountering a hurricane will be. Keep in mind that there are no guarantees when dealing with mother nature and there's no way to accurately predict now if a hurricane will form during the exact week or so you plan to visit Cancun or if there is, in fact, an active hurricane whether it will come anywhere near Cancun. All of that said, July and November are relatively safe periods.

I agree 100% with Sunnyboy. We were pounded so heavily with hurricanes last year (SW FL) that I refuse now to go to the Yucatan during August/September. I'd opt for the latest possible date that you can go---safer during hurricane season (toward the end), and the heat should be a little less relentless then, too.

If your vacation time is July-October, book your trip for July. I'ts the lowest risk month. I live in Cozumel and July is normally hot and sunny, with sometimes an afternoon shower, but that's it. Our risk for storms goes up in Sept. and October.
