What time of year
I would live to travel to Cancun/Mayan area but would like to go when it isn't so crowded and resorts aren't full. I also don't want to be there in the middle of hurricane season. Any suggestions when a good time of year would be to go?

Many more experts on Cancun and the Maya Riviera here than I am, but with the hurricane season "officially" running June 1-November 30, and the high tourist season going roughly December-April, I'd choose May.

We've been in Sept. twice and Nov. once. For low crowds, good weather and decent prices, I would say November the two weeks before Thanksgiving or December the two weeks before Christmas. Although Sept is a good time to go pricewise, both times we were holding our breath about hurricanes and lucked out we didn't get caught up in it. We did have to replace our vacation to Cozumel in November 2005 when Hurricane Wilma hit.
We've decided on Puerta Vallarta this year and found an absolute steal for the 2nd week of December. Almost 1/2 price of what we could get Cancun or Playa del Carmen for on the same dates.

October and November are absolutely beautiful here in the state of Yucatan. Less crowds, the Gulf's water is clear, and it's not too hot to visit the interior to see the ruins and colonial cities.
By the way, Yucatan Today has an interesting article on how the Mayans predict the weather - it's worth a try! http://www.yucatantoday.com/culture/eng-cabanuelas.htm
