Diana has excellent alternatives.
NaBalam is nice in a rustic way, very lush property and quiet. It's hard to get a room with a view because of the location of the rooms. The ones that do have views will be slim views through the trees, but it's a great hotel. You should dine at their upstairs restaurant even if you don't stay there.
I really liked staying at the Media Luna as they have the same beach front and same fabulous views as Secreto, and it's great for the price, but it's not a nice as Secreto. The interior of the rooms are pretty sparce and a more Mexican flair and the bathrooms are half the size as Secreto, but have great balcony with hammocks. (Secreto does not have hammocks.) As I said though, it's great for the price! Also, they have been working on renovating a couple of their downstairs rooms to make them 'jacuzzi' suites and I'll bet they are finished by Febuary so you should ask about that!
Villa Rolandi, probably the nicest place on the island, but it's expensive and not close to town. My In-Laws are returning from a 4 night stay there today, and as I was the one who set the trip up for them, I'm anxious to hear what they thought!
Avalon. Well, if you can handle the timeshare sharks it's a beautiful place and excellent location, but I think I was told that in order to stay in a Non AL, you have to take the timeshare presentation. Yuck!

We just returned from Hotel Playa la Media Luna last week. The room wasn't fancy, but the bed was good, the fridge kept the beer cold and there was plenty of hot water. Great balcony, and million dollar views at bargain prices.

IM is going to be VERY busy in Feb for the first time since 9/11.
Suggest you visit
isla-mujeres.net
click left tool bar on places to stay
Check Norte beach condos, Playa Media Luna, Nabalam.
Best hurry--prior to 9/11 the island was often booked for Feb well in advance of the typical booking season
