Hotel in PDC , walk to town

What is the best hotel/resort in PDC on the beach, close enough to walk to town (1-2 miles away is fine)? We'd like a pretty pool area, and a soft, sandy beach. No major hustle and bustle. Under $225 per night. Thanks!

I have 2 suggestions for you: Las Plapas (www.laspalapas.com.mx) and Shangri-La Caribe (www.mexicoholiday.com). Either of these resorts sound like they would be just what you are looking for. Both are located just north of town on a really beautiful beach within walking distance of town. Although we have not stayed at either property we have used the mexicoholiday website to book a trip and we had no problems. I hope this helps!

playa-maya.com is nice, right in town but very quiet and a cont. brkft is included.

Pool is not very large, but is usually almost deserted, and it's a cute little place at a decent price.

I am torn between Shangri La Caribe, Playa Maya and Las Palapas. I'm not sure if any of these have tvs, phones, or internet access. I need to be able to be reached (leaving the children at home), and also being able to check e-mails is important due to work. Also I'm unclear about which rooms have Ac at Shagri La Caribe. Can anyone help?

Just got back from Playa Maya Monday.
There are phones and TV's in every room, and several internet cafes right around the corner. (No access at the hotel that I know of.)
All rooms at PM have A/C.
I get the impression LP and Shangri La are both a bit more luxe than PM, but imho, you can't beat PM's central location and prices.
(I also heard something about Shangri La closing in April for renovations, so you may want to check on that to be sure.)

Thanks so much, Diana. Now, does anyone know about air conditioning at Shangri La or Las Palapas?

I stayed at Shangri-La last spring. There were no TVs or phones in the rooms (I thought that was a plus). There is a pay phone in the concierge hut and if your cell phone works there (maybe it could, mine didn't, my service is Verizon) If you walk to town there are internet cafes everywhere. I had a window unit AC in my room, and even though I was not in one of the beach front rooms, I never used the AC because the fans and the screened louvred (sp?) windows worked just fine for me (and I am one of those people that needs AC all the time).
