It's very hard to answer a question about whether a property is "worth it", as this means different things to different people, it fully depends on your perspective. You might get a better answer if you tell what you are looking for in a resort, where you have already travelled to, etc. Having been to both the Caribbean and pacific coasts of Mexico, I can tell you that the locations are quite different. The beaches are better on the Caribbean coast and the water more turquoise in color, but I find the pacific coast more picturesque.

I'd bet they're both worth it!
!
If you can't decide, book one for this year, and plan the other for next! Also, perhaps one destination has better airfare than the other...
The Tamarindo is also farther from any city, if you want to visit a town for shopping.

Okay, what I'm looking for...Very cool resort, quiet, very private, pretty, clean beach (one we may get to ourselves from time to time). I don't care about shopping (maybe some snorkeling) rest, and reading, and that's it! It's our 10 year wedding annniversary so let's throw in some romance! Thanks for the help!

The only complaint I see about Ikal del Mar is the beach. (I'm assuming you've read all the reviews on Tripadvisor.com?).
I think I would choose El Tamarindo from what I've seen. The scenery of the Pacific Coast is very beautiful. (but I haven't been to either!)

Tamarindo then.....Las Alamandas does not have private pools & it takes longer to drive to. Or a junior suite with plunge pool at El Careyes, they are booked for October though, when we wanted to return. Luxury link had packages for El Careyes.

Try www.differentworld.com. It's full name is El Tamarindo Golf Resort I think.
