Easter Island?
I just booked tickets for a trip next year to Tahiti and Easter Island. While I have plenty of info on French Polynesia, I would appreciate recommendations for smaller, local hotels in Easter Island (I'm not interested in the Explora or another large hotel) -- I'd prefer something like a B&B run by a local family. Also, any other information on Easter Island -- we will be there for three full days, flying from Papeete.
Thanks, Michael

We just did that trip in Mar 07.
We booked the hotel O'tai. An average hotel in town so we could walk everywhere. Breakfast was minimal, but grounds were lovely. Got a standard room without AC, but asked for a fan and it was good enough. They met us at the airport.
Flights from Papeete leave several days a week about midnight. You fly thru 5 time zones. 3 days should do it. We booked our tours as well, two half days and a full day tour on the day we left. You leave Easter Island around 2200 if you're returning to Tahiti. Cabs in Tahiti are very very expensive. The 2 mile trip from the airport to hotel was $25.00...the local busses are great, but don't run at night, so you're stuck with a cab.
