CR - Playa del Coco questions

Hi, I'm heading to Costa Rica with three other 20-something year-olds, and we plan on spending 3-4 days time in the Playa de Coco region to scuba dive. Does anyone have recommendations on places to stay/ other things to do in that region? Also, how feasible is it to access various beaches in the area on rental bicycles (playa ocotal, playa conchal, playa hermosa, etc). Thanks so much for your help!

You didn't say when you are going. But I can recommend a great place to stay in Ocotal. It's called Villa Vista Mar. There are three apartments (with kitchens) and a beautful pool. And the price is right. I know the owners and have stayed there three times.
I'm not sure I'd want to bicycle to the beaches. The area is fairly hilly. Playa Ocotal and Playa del Coco are close to each other. Playa Hermosa might be doable. But there is no direct route to Playa Conchal, so I'd say the ride would be at least 25-30 miles each way.

Rbrazill, thanks for your tips. I think we will stay in the town on Playa del Coco b/c it seems to have a variety of scuba diving outfitter options. If we want to visit different beaches in the area, such as playa conchal, playa flamingo, or Tamarindo, is it fairly easy to find taxis, or does it make more sense to rent a car? Thanks again!

A car is very helpful in this area--there is a lot to see and do!

You can pretty much get someone to drive youjust about anywhere in Costa Rica if you're willing to pay. But I agree with Shillmac, you'll be better off with a car. If you're not planning on driving anywhere exotic, you won't need to pay the extra money for a 4X4. Most Ticos (i.e. those who do have cars) drive regular cars.
