Playa Del Carmen

Thinking of traveling to this area with three kids, 17, 13 and 12. We hear it is south of Cancun and nothing like it! We like seclusion, privacy and something unique and special.... a house would be great! Any suggestions????

Yes, go to the www.playadelcarmeninfo.com website and have a look around. Everything you'd want to know about the area including restaurants and hotels.

We enjoy Playa Del Carmen, but I certainly wouldn't call it either secluded or private. It's a town of almost 30,000 people with a large number of tourists. That being said, it's a far cry from the concrete jungle of Cancun. In Playa itself, most of the hotels are smaller more intimate places. South of town in the Playacar area, there are lots of mega resorts.

For more privacy and selclusion, you may want to look further south to Akumal or Tulum.

You might also consider Isla Mujeres - not too far from Playa del Carmen but much smaller and more laid back.

I 'second' Isla Mujeres. Only a 15-20 minute ferry ride from Cancun and SO different. A very small island and very safe for the kids to run on their own. Beuatiful swimming beach on the north side (Playa Norte) with many hotels to choose from. Or, you could stay away from town in many of the house rental properties. Check out
www.isla-mujeres.net for all the info and rental properties.

90,000 people in Playa!!! Hard to imagine. Guess I should pay more attention. I thought 30,000 sounded like too many.... Can you tell I live in a small town???
