Can the ($26?) tax be paid via credit card -or is only cash allowed?
Thanks

Now, at the San Jose airport, you can pay by credit card. This was not the case three years ago on our previous visit. I'm not sure if this is available yet at the Liberia airport.

They have a new place to pay inside the terminal. It is very well marked.

When we went thru in January, they only accepted Visa. Hmmm--I think it was Visa. There's an outside chance it was MasterCard, but Visa sticks in my mind for some reason.

Do they add any additional fees for using a credit card?

Visa and MasterCard companies add a 1% fee for all credit card foreign currency transactions. In addition, the issuing bank of your credit card may add an additional fee of 1 or 2%. Some banks (e.g., MBNA) do not add this additional fee.

Some bank ATM cards and check cards are now doing the same for foreign currency purchases and ATM withdrawals.

Check with your credit, ATM/cash, and check card issuing bank to see what sort of extra foreign currency transaction charges they might or might not charge.
