Costa Rica - Husband's a surfer. What about me???

Hello all. I've never been to CR but my husband has been twice to stay at a fairly primative (in my opinion) surf camp to just surf and do absolutely nothing else. This year, he wants me to go, but I don't know where to suggest we stay. I DO know that I don't want to stay where there is no a/c and no tv, and no restaurant. I know it sounds picky, but if I'm not surfing with him, I need to entertain myself SOMEHOW. I would like it to be somewhere on the Pacific coast near Jaco and Hermosa where he can hit the surf spots. Then in the evening we can have a good time together. Any thoughts? Thanks!!!

My husband is a surfer and I'm not. I've been going with him at least once a year for several years and really enjoy myself, but I'm happy just laying on the beach or at the pool and reading the day away. Can you tell me you're age range? I ask because Jaco is a very young crowd. How about budget? There are some nice beach places with a/c and TV but it will cost you! What kind of things do YOU want to do? If you can answer there questions I can probably direct you to a beach that will have surf for him, plus the things that you are looking for.

I meant to type "your" age range. Also, what time of year are you thinking of?

Thanks for your response!
I'm 28, he's 29. I like to do some active things like run, swim, eat (ha!). I also like to shop and pick up some locally-made items. We're thinking of sometime in July or August.

go to Tamarindo. Great surfing, great restraunts, lots to do for a non-surfer. Sort of crowded this time of the year, but so are all the surfing towns. Did I mention great surfing?

By the way, lots of modern places to stay. I highly recommend Casa Cook, small bungalos on the beach with fully appointed kitchens, cable TV, air conditioning, daily cleaning, small pool, VERY nice people.

Well, I think Jaco may be a bit 'young', even for you youngsters! Also, it not a very pretty town or beach. But is is a fun PARTY town with Disco's Casinos and bars galore. The best surfing is not in Jaco though, but close by in Hermosa. If your boyfriend insist on staying in the area, I would say to stay somewhere ON Hermosa and go into Jaco for activities. Manuel Antonio is also close by and is beautiful so you could go there for day trips too. Afterall, your boyfriend won't be surfing ALL day,. Usually just the mornings. Some recommended Hotels on Playa Hermosa are Terraza Del Pacifico, Hotel Fuego Del Sol or The Backyard. I think all have a/c and TV.
The suggestion of Tamarindo is also a very good one, as it's a big tourist town and could keep you busy. It's difficult finding places with a/c AND TV, but you could look into Cala Luna, but it's not all that close to town and is not ON the beach. Also look into Tamarindo Vista Villas and Tamarindo.
My husband and I almost always go to Nosara to surf, but there is really nothing to do there, so you'd probably be bored.

Thanks everyone! I'll print all of this out to show my hubby. Hopefully he'll find something that will satisfy his lust for waves (and his lust for me)! haha
