Flamingo Beach in Costa Rica

Does anyone have any feedback on the Flamingo Beach Resort in Costa Rica?

Great place if you are going as a family. If you are looking for a couples, singles, or more avtive of a trip, head futher down the West Cntral Pacific coast and land anywhere from Jaco Beach to Manuel Antonio.

There is really not a lot to do in the Flamingo,Tamarindo,Liberia areas and it can get very boring up there quickly.

It's a great place to relax for 3-4 days. Not such a great place for a base for longer as I know you plan to do. BUT, you can still enjoy yourselves. The beach is gorgeous and the sunsets a monumental event every evening.

Make an appointment with Caroline at the beauty salon for a massage. She is so good, and her husband, Chris, does hair. I've gotten haircuts, color, massages, manis and pedis there. All good. And not expensive. The hotel won't tell you about them at all, and the salon is in a little corner down a long hall from the reception desk. So you'd not likely find it on your own.

When are you going? The giant leatherbacks nest at Playa Grande from December-March. Maybe that could be a good activity for you.

I'd for sure plan to visit Palo Verde for a daytrip. It is one of the OTC (Organization for Tropical Studies) locations, and they are all excellent. It's the only one we haven't been too; weird since we spend so much time in that area every year. These days, Flamingo is the place we go to when we are through "doing" and just want to chill.

You'd have a hard time not liking Flamingo Beach although just staying there won't allow you to experience "Costa Rica" all that much. We typically finish each of our CR trips with a few days in this area. We like to fish, kick back and get a little sun before returning home to the wet/cold Pacific Northwest. When people refer to this area as boring, they are just letting you know it is a bit secluded. If you rent a car, you can adventure out and see quite a bit although there will be some driving involved. Things that look fairly close on the map might actually involve a number of hours of driving and the roads aren't the best. All part of the fun, right?

Will you be able to spend a few days in Arenal or some other part of the country? Flamingo Beach will be drier than many areas - something to think about depending upon the time of year you are planning to go.

If you only have time for a quick, afordable little beach getaway, Flamingo Beach could be just what you are looking for. Some travel agencies offer some great packages for this resort and I've heard it has received a lot of upgrades in the last few years. The sunsets in this area really are fantastic. We leave for CR in less than three weeks and I can't wait to experience the beautiful, intense orange colors - they almost seem fake some evenings.
