The topic "Apartments in BA" seems to have been closed. Can someone explain to me what has happened please.

Cheers

I clicked on Argentina, and it came up for me.

It's there, but it is closed to further comments.

I guess that the Fodor's moderators felt that it was veering off topic with the various back and forths and was getting a bit personal...
At least the posts that were there seem still to be there...

It just seems really odd to me - especially in view of the posts about the issues on TA. I cannot see why the Fodors moderators should intervene. After all, people don't have to read the posts unless they want to. I fully subscribe to the removal of coarse or abusive posts, but it seems a denial of free speech otherwise. I hope a moderator will comment and allay all my unspoken fears.

Sally: do not expect an answer from the moderators. Raquel is right about the motives for closing the thread.
The questions are, from my point of view, 1) who complained? and 2) why?
The answers are: 1) We'll most likely never know and 2) I'll explain by e-mail.

*What are the rules of conduct for using the forums?

You can read all the Fodors rules if you click on the Travel Talk section up at the top of the page.
They explain them very well.

I totally agree with Suze. The purchase of these message boards is NOT some kind of social networking site where friends come on and chit chat. It is to share travel information. Not to argue, post chit-chat or as Suze accurately called it ... a "free for all".

If you all aren't happy with how these websites work then start your own website or travel forum. Or better yet, make your own Myspace page or whatever.

Some people forget that posting here and on these sites is a priviledge NOT a right. It's their site and they can do what they want with it.

Best all.

I meant the PURPOSE (not purchase).

Also, it's important to note that some people get banned for breaking the rules on these boards. I know sites like Trip Advisor already banned some members (some more than once) and I don't think Fodors would hesitate to ban members here as well that break their rules.

The OP asked: "Can someone explain to me what has happened please." and, later: "I cannot see why the Fodors moderators should intervene."
I have answered those questions at length, by e-mail.
Since the rules are mentioned so enthusiastically, I wish to point out that using the name of one's travel related business as a screen name would clearly seem to be a violation of "Please respect the integrity of Fodors.com and our forums, and find another way to advertise your business or organization."

The post was closed as we felt the original poster's question was answered---the rest was largely bickering between two posters. If you have any questions you can write me at [email protected].

I read through the closed topic of ApartmentsBA. Quite interesting!

I do agree that Fodors is a great resource to all of us and we are lucky to have such a great forum to assist us in our travel plans. Without some sort of moderation things could get out of hand but some of the things I see deleted or closed seem odd.

In defense of Avrooster, he has often provided me with the most accurate and helpful information of anyone on the Argentina forum!! I can't wait to meet him when I visit BA this year!

As with email, it is difficult to sense if a person is joking or just being mean. I try to put smileys and such when I am ribbing someone but that doesn't always help.

Most people just ignore a post they don't like. However, there are certain people that are like kids in grade school. They think that reporting on another poster will score them points with the "teacher." >-

Cheers!
