Dear Editors, Is there some way to note that a particular posting has been locked to additional replies? It is such a time waste to type a complete and thoughtful reply only to find that it will not post. Thinking something I did was wrong, I typed the reply more than once and finally assummed you had locked out future replies due to the negative nature of some of the postings. While you certainly have the right to do this, it would be very nice if the post had a little astrik or the like to denote the status. Thank you.

TC, on threads that are closed, there is no "Post Reply" link.

So if there is a "post my reply" button, its an open posting? Twice today I responded to a posting about NY restaurants and guidebooks. Neither time did my reply show, even though I've "refreshed" several times. I did mention in the post that I thought ACCESS guides were very good -- Fodor's wouldn't be editing the competition, would they?

No, I've never seen them edit away other guidebooks. In fact, you just posted "access" in this thread.

The only time that you might hit a snag with trying to post to a closed thread is if you hit "post reply", and then the editors closed the thread before you hit "post my reply". Not sure what would happen then. Otherwise, if the reply button is there, you can, in theory, reply to it.

It might just have been something funky in your browser at the time? Does the thread still have its reply button available now?

TC, it's not your nor your computer. It happens to a lot of us. It's the Fodor's site. Sometimes, we post and post and post.....and eventually, it works.

Fodors has hired an army of gremlins. If they are having a bad day, do not like your post for some reason, or just want to have some fun, they push a button that makes it impossible for you to post a reply. They also change posts to include poor grammer and bad spelling so that the posters look like illiterate.

I had a post of mine deleted yesterday, the only reason I can think of is because it contained a link to Travelocity?

I wish they would give the reasons, we are capable of learning after all.

As above, if a post is locked there is no "post my reply" as you usually see. There is nothing at the bottom of the thread.

As a moderator for another forum, I'll let you know that there are rules that our company sets up and we have to follow them.

I agree with nina. I wish they would let us have some reasons as to why certain posts are deleted. There are lots of NON-travel related threads on here that don't get deleted.

They reserve the right to not post your post or to delete your post.

They don't have to give us a reason.

I think their "discretion" is pretty arbitrary...but it is their forum, so we just have to play it the way they want...

I still wish they would give some reason as to why they delete certain posts. It would be helpful.

I disagree and have not found it particularly arbitrary. When threads get pulled, or specific posts deleted or a thread is locked, it doesn't take a genius to figure out why imo.

Perhaps the original poster's situation was a computer problem. That has happened to me before, when a post didn't "take", especially on a day when Fodor's was on and off line.

If you can type in a reply in a box... then the post isn't a locked topic. If you post it, see it, then later it disappears, then THAT's the Editors.

I can see why they lock some posts...like that one about "paying more for kids"
But why some are deleted while others still remain to haunt us...sigh.

I'm still not sure what happened to my posted reply. It wasn't offensive and I'm sure that I've posted how much I like the ACCESS guidebooks for walking around on this forum before. To my knowledge that information has never been edited before. I am an AOL member and heaven knows that gives me fits at times. Maybe the two systems just weren't talking to each other yesterday. I'll give it another go.

I finally got it to work (apologizes to Fodor's Editors). Tried to post 4 more times without success by clicking the reply button at the bottom of the posting. In frustration, clicked the reply button at the TOP of the posting and wala! It worked. Computers!!! ya gotta love em.
