Car Rental Mexico

We are starting to plan a trop to Mexico 2008. Car Rental seems extortianate with drop off charges and taxes. Over $2500 a week would male this trip beyond ur exspenses...are we missing something?

Where in Mexico? Picking up and dropping off in the same place? Definitely there's something wrong with that number, it should not be much more than renting in the U.S.

We often rent from National, rates are around $30/day for the smaller cars and no surprises at the desk when you pick it up ... I think they are mainly in the resort areas and I don't know about drop-off fees though ... if the drop off charge is adding many hundreds of $$ I'd try to arrange the trip differently.

Suze, at the moment we are intending to drop off at a different place than our pickup point...obviously we will have to rearrange our plans, since drop off fees were about $2,000!
BillH I will take a look at National. Thank you

$500 for the week and $2000 for the drop-off? WOW. I only have experience with people renting cars within one city, and as I mentioned, that was similar to US prices.

$500/week sounds about right for a mid-sized car by the time you add tax and insurance ... need to restructure the trip to avoid the drop-off charge If you're already stuck with flying out of your final destination I'd have one person take the car back to the initial rental spot and then figure out a way to bus or fly them back to the final fly out spot, something like that ...
