advice on renting a car in Mexico ?
HI, Does anyone know if it's better to rent a car before you go to Mexico, or if it's better (i.e. cheaper) to wait until you are there, on the ground, and get one then?

The big chains are pretty reasonable (we've had good luck with National in the resort towns) and you can make the reservation on the internet before you go and know the costs.
Maybe possible to 'negotiate' a cheaper deal when you get there from a local rental place, but you could also arrive during some obscure holiday and find yourself paying double or, worse, not being able to rent anything.
We always rent in advance, no problems that way.

Check carrentals.com. I've used that site to rent a car at Christmas here in Canada and they seem to deal with several different agencies.
We always found car rentals expensive in Mexico, but we met people last year in Puerto Morelos who had rented a car for a couple of weeks and it was quite reasonable. They used carrentals.com, I believe.
