Cano Negro Tour question and what do do afterwards?
How should we book the Cano Negro Tour? Can we book through our hotel once we get there? Or should we book it online in advance? Which site, which tour operator?
Secondly, is there any time and energy to do another activity on the same day as the tour?

Not sure whom your hotel uses but I know Sunset Tours offers the tour. I used them twice on other tours and found them excellent. Unless you're going in a peak period or have only one possible day to do it, I'd book when you get there.

I see two tours on the Sunset webpage. I think the one you're looking for is the standard tour of the wildlife refuge, unless you want to do the canoeing or kayaking yourself.
I'd definitely go with Sunset. They pioneered the Caño Negro tours and do the best job, I think. It's a long day, and you won't get back until late afternoon. (Caño Negro is about 90 minutes from La Fortuna.) You'd have time to go back to your hotel, shower, go to dinner, maybe go to Tabacon in the evening.
As tully says, you can probably wait until you get there, and sign up for a tour the next day. Sunset's office is right in the center of La Fortuna on the main street on the south side of the church. Your hotel could make the arrangements too.

1. Caño Negro Regular Rio Frio Boat- $55
2. Caño negro Wildlife Refuge by boat - $80
