Can we avoid immigration & customs in Mexico City?

We are flying to Oaxaca thru Mexico City next week. Can we go directly to our Oaxaca flight in Mexico City airport without going thru customs and immigration, as long as we check our luggage thru to Oaxaca? thanks for any help.

You have to go through immigration, but not customs. Immigration usually does not take long at all. In theory you will go through customs in Oaxaca, but in my experience you can just grab your bag and go there--very small airport.

I think the question was about where you go through Mexican immigration and customs. In some countries you do it at your first port of entry. In others, it could be at your final destination.

Graziella: Yes, Jeff is right, my question was badly worded. I was hoping to go thru immigration and customs at Oaxaca, rather than Mexico City, just to save some time there, as our connection is short to get the flight to Oaxaca, and I don't know how far we have to walk, etc. (Haven't been in Mexico City airport in 20 years.)

Marilyn and Stewbear are correct. and Seamus' idea was a good one. I called Mexicana and they confirmed: immigration, yes, at MEX, and customs, at Oaxaca. thanks for the help.
