cabo place to stay

Family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens: 16, 13) flying to Cabo San Lucas over Christmas. We have never been to Mexico before. Any suggestions for places to stay? Would love to spend around $100/night and be bed bug free, and able to walk to restaurants and beach. I realize it's kind of a pipeline dream...

Restaurant recommendations and things we definitely shouldn't miss would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

$100/night for 4 is going to be tough, especially at Christmas. Check over at tripadvisor to get ideas of price ranges. It can be had, but will be more basic, non-resort type hotels. You may also want to try priceline.

Good luck.

Thanks. I've never done Priceline, always seemed risky with all the unknowns...but might give it a go.

Do you know if one neighborhood/area is more safe than another?

Los Cabos has 3 areas: San Jose del Cabo, small charming town with some nice hotels and larger resort down by the beaches. The Corridor: many large resorts. And Cabo San Lucas: more of the party town with small hotels, large resort and everything in between.

I just thought: Priceline may not work since you have 4 people.

For San Jose check: Tropicana, Intercontinental, Best Western for your price range. Tropicana is in town, not on beach.

Check Tripadvisor for Los Cabos. You may have to go with the smaller hotels or B&B to get in your price range. Bungalows in CSL looks nice, but I am not sure on prices. Tesoro is by the marina and can be an option.

I stayed one week last year at & loved www.mardecortez.com and it is in that price range. It's in downtown Cabo San Lucas, about 5 mins. walk from the Marina and 10-15 mins. walk to the beach (Medano). For that price, and for four people you aren't going to get a resort. Looking at renting a private condo might be another option. Trip Advisor has an excellent Cabo forum as already mentioned above.

p.s. Cabo is only a "party town" if that's what you choose to do.

I have a review of Mar de Cortez over at Trip Advisor. There's lots of photos from other past guests so you can really see what it's all about.

I found a condo at marina sol in my price range. Looks great! Great locale (we won't need a car/can walk everywhere) and nice amenities. Thanks for all your help!
