Buenos Aires - Sheraton or Marriott Hotel?
We are going to be in BA in January 2009. The room rate for the Marriott is quite a bit more than the Sheraton - about $70.00. Is it worth it to stay at the Marriott? How far from the main part of town (the pedestrian street) is the Sheraton? There are two Sheratons when I look up their website. Which one do I choose? We will be there for three nights pre-cruise.
Thanks alot for your help.

The Sheraton and the Marriott are basically across the street from each other by Plaza San Martin. The pedestrian street (Calle Florida) starts in Plaza San Martin so either one would put you where you want to be. The one on Ave. Cordoba looks to be out side of the center of town and not where you would want to be as much.
If you want a nice hotel that is similarly located and a little less expensive than the Sheraton I can recommend the Amerian Buenos Aires Park Hotel. it is about 3-4 blocks from the middle of Calle Florida and about 3-4 blocks from Plaza San Martin and about 3-4 blocks from Puerto Madero. The staff was very accomodating and the rooms were quite comfortable. I think the cost of it is about 1/2 of what the Sheraton is charging (depending on your dates you could get a superior room for about $140 US). Their breakfast each morning was very good and there was free internet in the lobby. No pool, but we didn't have much time for a pool anyway.

No for $70.00 more it is not worth staying at the Marriott!
I had a very nice room at the Sheration on the 18 floor facing the Park...and I cannot see what else I would have need extra for $70.00!!
Sheraton is within walking distance to many nice places.
As jcasale mentioned you are very near San Martin park and you will walk around in here on your way to Florida Street....
It is nice to just stroll along Florida Street and browse and shop.
If you get the park view room at the Sheraton ,you willsee the lovley Red Brick Watch Tower across the street in the Park.

I'm the Marriott bigot... but personally, I'd save the 70$. The Sheraton is lovely... . basically a huge convention style major city hotel. But the location is fine... the rooms are spacious and very nice. I think you'll have no regrets.

I love the Marriott but I you can buy a lot of Malbec vino for 70 bucks a night. Before you make a decision based soley on price, try phoning the reservation department at the Plaza Marriott and ask about special rates. I found a very friendly reservationist before my last trip who helped me find a rate far less than anything advertized on the net.
