Yes the beach is a long steep hike -- or another beach a long jungle walk. They will drive you to the beach for a fee (maybe $50 rt but check with them) Some of the deluxe cabins have a deck without any railing that would be horrible for young children. And some of the cheaper accomodations are a long walk from dining/pool etc. Bosque is wonderful, wonderful place but I don't think the best place for toddlers.

I don't know what the price to drive you down to the beach (Pan Dulce) but I don't think it's $50, as when they pick you up (after you hike down there) it's only a couple dollars. You can also walk up the driveway and then down the road to the beach, Maureen (the chef) passed me one day heading down there that way. It really is a nice hike down though, maybe takes an hour or so and then another 20-30 minutes on a flat beach access road. The trail is a little steep & rocky but only in a few places. Nice variety of wildlife on the Golfo Dulce trail, one of my faves.
Maybe be too much with a toddler though. Many of the cabinas are set right on the cliff with decks and others are inset just a few feet.

We were at BdC last week and hiked down the Pacific Trail. Unless you are in good shape, I'd steer clear. Less than a half mile but 500 feet down (and up). There were howlers in the trees. When we got to the beach, it was sunny and hot with little shade and the beach sand is deep and hard to walk. The Golfo Dulce beach tramp wasn't all that easy and the beach was not that pretty. I'd seek another resort that was on the beach if that is a priority. But the grounds at BdC and the network of trails are delightful there.....Ross

Why don't you spend a few days on the beach at Iguana Lodge or Black Turtle Lodge (near Puerto Jimenez)and then if you really have your heart on Bosque del Cabo, go there for two nights and enjoy the grounds and trails without making a trek to the beach. With all the above options you will have to be careful which accomodations to chose for safety with your toddlers.

I don't see bosque as a beach resort at all. And I don't recommend it for toddlers either. I dont't think you could fully appreciate your vacation because you'd be worrying about them falling off the cliffs by the cabinas or running ahead of you on the paths. As the other's said, the beach isn't an easy access beach. We hiked to the Pacific which was not a hike you'd want to bring a toddler down, let alone up and it's not a swimmable beach at all. We didn't go to the swimmable beach at all. I'd try the other hotels mentioned if you're looking for a beach on the Osa and bringing young kids.

I agree - definitely would not stay there with toddlers, too easy to tumble of the edge of a cliff and also pretty hot with no air conditioning. If you don't have your heart set on the Osa, I'd look at staying somewhere like Manuel Antonio; it's much more family friendly, and you can still see lots of wildlife - the National Park there also has a beautiful beach. The area also has loads of great restaurants and is very popular with families.
