Best experiences in placencia?

We will be staying 7 nights at the inn at Roberts Grove. We noticed that the tours and trips offered are somewhat expensive, and it will be hard to choose the best ones. We would love to hear from you about some of the tours and experiences you had while in placencia?

Snorkeling and diving, fishing; kayaking on the sea, lagoon or jungle rivers; hiking, birding and waterfalls in the Jaguar Preserve; Monkey River, Blue Creek Cave and one of the Mayan sites in the Mayan villages in Toledo.

Monkey River was OK. We didn't see a whole lot but it was a nice day.

Jaguar Preserve is a nice trip. Make them stop at the butterfly farm too.

We went to Nim Li Punit but its a very small ruin and might not be worht it.

We went to Xunantunich in San Ignacio from Placencia. An all day trip for sure but it gives you a look at other parts of the country and Xunantunich is a nice Mayan ruin. We stopped at Blue Hole (inland) on the way back.

The snorkeling isn't as good as it is where you can get to the reef but it was fun none the less. You should definitely go.

We didn't kayak down there but generally enjoy it. Its a good way to explore.

Don't forget to leave a day or two to enjoy hammocks and explore Placencia.

We stayed at Roberts 2 years ago.
Grab some bikes and ride into Placencia one day and in the other direction another day. The snorkelling trip was good - but we went on a very cool day (in Feb)
Monkey River was enjoyable - good lunch at a local restaurant, saw some manatees on the way back.

Thanks for the replies! We've been hearing mixed reviews on the monkey river tour but everyone seems to enjoy the jaguar preserve. Does anyone know if it is possible to do the one day ATM tour from placencia?
