beach resort near Sao Paulo
I was wondering if anyone can recommend a nice beach resort near Sao Paulo. We are arriving on Fri. am and only have until Monday for the beach. Don't want to waste Friday travelling too far. Ideas on Guaruja, Santos, or Ilhabela?? Is it worth it to take a flight to Rio? Are the beaches there really that much better? Don't really need the night life, Just clean, beautiful beaches at a nice resort that has a good restaurant on premises or nearby. Price range up to $250/night.

It seems you are very focused on beaches.
In São Paulo, the best beaches sit on the north coast - starting in Guarujá.
Santos' beaches are not spetacular, however the city is beautiful, with its kilometers-long beautiful gardens facing the beaches.
There are a few good (and small) beaches in Ilhabela, on the coast facing the continent. Ilhabela (= beautiful island) is covered with lush vegetation (Atlantic Forest). If the weather conditions are ok, it's possible to cross Ilhabela aboard a 4-wheel drive vehicle towards its open-sea coast - very beautiful - and come back by boat. No resorts there, however, there are very good hotels.
You may reach Santos (1 h), Guarujá (1 1/2) and Ilhabela (6 h) by bus from São Paulo.
What do you mean about taking a flight to Rio ?

We are renting a car, so a few hours isn't a problem. I have heard the beaches in Rio are really nice too. But the flights to Rio from Sao P. might not work with our schedule. Has anyone heard of Casa Grande in Guaruja??
