We're getting desperate.

We're using Plus system bank cards and cannot get money from Banelco ATMs. We ask for 500 pesos, and have gone down to 300 and are still refused. We cancel the transacation at that point, since it amounts to so little, not to mention service charges each time ...

Can someone please suggest ATMs in BA where we can get a good amount of cash (500-1000 pesos) with the Plus system? Sounds like we might have to go back to the airport ...

Have you tried a Machine on the LINK network? I was there in Novemeber.early December - before this 100 peso folly though. I always had better luck with those. I used the one at the airport - Banco de la Nacion Argentina. I also used a bank on Santa Fe - somehwere near Salguero. I just can't remember exactly. There was something Italian or an Italian city in the name. Sorry I can't be more specific.

If you have an American Express card, you can go to an Amex office in BsAs and they will advance you money on your card...if you are really in a fix..

Thanks, Raquel and Scarlett, for getting back to me. I tried a bank on the Link system yesterday and got 1000 pesos. Was also told by a Canadian tourist here that Banco de la Nacion Argentina works fine for up to 1000 pesos a day with our Royal Bank Plus system cards.
Things are lookin up.

That is great to hear.!! Still the majority of machines seem to be Banelco - so if the low limit prevails it really will be a problem for tourists.

The solution to our ATM problems: I couldn't get money through BANELCO, so I went to a bank with LINK and got cash. My partner could get money from neither BANELCO nor LINK, so he finally selected CIRRUS at the Banco de la Nacion Argentina and got cash, even though we are both on the PLUS system. We can now access 1050 pesos a day if necessary. Best bet is to deal with Banco de la Nacion Argentina, as Raquel suggested.

Hopefully the whole Banelco/Plus issue is now solved. Glad you were able to find a solution jstgodard.

The Banelco system still wasn't working yesterday, March 1st 2007. I have been most days in an attempt to draw pesos but to no avail. Use the link machines - it's about the only option.
