Nanabee, Well basically it's not (reliable to try to purchase everything with a credit card in Mexico!) It's not Europe. How you handle funds on a European trip does not work the same in Mexico. Plenty of local businesses do not even accept credit cards, you need peso somehow.

I am very particular about using my credit card in Mexico. Hotels, car rental, some higher end restaurants or shopping, but that's about it. For me it's cash for most things too.

Sorry suze, but I have been to many cities in Europe and even more in Mexico and it does work like Europe with credit cards. Of course, if you find yourself in a small city or village... then the peso is what works best.

Exactly. Cards can be compromised anywhere, including at home. Hauling all the cash you think you might need for an entire vacation is a recipe for disaster.

I'm not talking about cards being "compromised". I'm talking about businesses not accepting them.

I didn't buy one peso and used ATM.
I had a coffee at the terminal and shopped at the souvenir shops.
Thank gawd I came in with a rental car - at least I did that right.
No advice on what toilet to use. A pity.
