Arenal lava flow direction? (and hotel)

Hi everyone!

I read a trip review from someone on another website today saying that the Arenal volcano lava flow has changed directions. They couldn't see it from the Arenal Observatory Lodge, which is where I'm booked to stay in a month. I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about which way it's going now, and if you possibly had any other hotel recommendations. It's probably too late to change now, but I thought I would investigate!

Thanks!

They probably couldn't see it because of cloud cover, not because the lava had shifted.

As of last week, people were still able to see lava from their beds at the AOL:

gwo, how recently were you able to see it from Tabacon? We saw it from there a couple of years ago, but was curious if you've seen it go that way recently?

shutter, we saw it from the Lost Iguana a few months ago. I think RAC is probably on to something. A lot of times the view is blocked by foggy mist. You can't see it no matter where you are.

Whew! I think you guys are right - probably low cloud cover. My fiance checked out a few recent reviews on other sites and people saw lava from AOL.

Thanks for the reassurance!

We leave in 34 days! So exciting!

We were at AOL and Tabacon in late October and the views were better from AOL.

A few years ago we stayed at AOL, and though we never saw the lava due to cloudcover, we could occasionally feel the rumbling and hear what sounded like thunder. It's a unique property, out of the way but worth the drive, in my opinion.
