The good DrDawggy is more qualified to answer your location question than I am. He should be back here soon. He's probably very busy getting ready to come down here, so please excuse him! LOL!!

We were just in the Ruggieri and Las Heras area today, it is busy and bustling and seems to be fine.
The Parque Las Heras is wonderful, huge and green in the middle of all those busy streets, the zoo and Botanical Gardens are not far..I think it might be fine.
But dr dawggy knows better than I

Ruggierei and Las Heras A very nice area. Does the apartment front on Ruggieri or Las Heras? If it is a front facing apartment on Las Heras (frente) and not on a high floor it could be very noisy...if it is on the back (contrafrente) the noise factor is not a problem. Ruggieri is not a very noisy street so even a front facing apartment should not be bad. This location is only a couple of blocks from the short stortstayinba apartment.....

I'll remind the good doctor of your question. As I have said before, it is MOST unlike him to delay a reply past dawn of the next day. He must be getting old. LOL!!

I would stick to Ruggieri and Las Heras location. Of the other four, the best could be Austria y Juncal. The other three are nearer Palermo Soho area, which is very trendy but has very poor transportation to the rest of the city.

dear expertbue, thanks for your feedback, i'm leaning toward the Austria and Juncal apt.

I'm surprised to hear your comment about the other 3 as thre all look to be within walking distance to Subte stations. Is that not a convenient way to get around the city?

AndrewDavid, we ( husband and I ) take taxis everywhere. All over town, there are a gazillion on the streets, you never have to stand and wait more than a couple of minutes for one, they are cheap cheap cheap.
I intend to take the Subte at least once just to see what it is like and buses are easy and cheap too...but the way things have been with us, taxis are the easiest and quickest way to get from Here to There

thanks scarlett,
i believe you moved to BA from NYC right?
when I am in NYC I rarely take taxi's except late at night because they just sit in traffic. I'm always on the Subway. Here in Victoria not much traffic so anything goes.
I am sorry no one commented on all of my proposed apartment locations esp those in Palermo so I'll have to just trust the folks at apartmentsba as I want to book this morning

Since it will be hot and muggy I looked at places w/ pools as I thought a dip would be nice after being out all day.

I am working to purge the italian from my spanish so people can understand me!
cheers

AndrewDavid,

None of the apartments that you are mentioning are superclose to the subte. But I guess I was spoiled. The apartment I rented was about 40 metres from the Bulnes stop.

The subte is definitely a good way to get around in Bs As. It is very cheap in price and relatively efficient. But there are limitations. The area it covers is not nearly as extensive as the NYC subway. So you may often find you have to supplement the subte with other means of transportation - be it colectivo, taxi or walking. Also it only runs till just after 10.30 at night. Also - avoid it at rush hour since it will be very very packed.

If you plan on using public transportation, also consider the colectivos (public buses) The network is very extensive and you can usually find a bus that will get you to where you want to go. Get yourself a copy of the Guia T, which you can buy at the kiosks around Bs. As. Once you get the hang of how to use it, it is invaluable.

But since you are only staying in Bs As for a short time, you may find that taxis and walking turn out to be the most convenient.

Raquel, thanks for your response. I normally like to experience a city on my feet. as an architect, i am always happy wandering about and looking at buildings, taking in the streetscape and hanging around in cafes, meeting people I speak some spanish now mixed up w/ my italian so hope i can still converse un poco en espanol .
As i didn't hear any feedback from folks on the locations I proposed I rented an apartment in a new building at Guatemala and Armenia this morning. This appears to be 5 blocks from Subte stop Scalabrini Ortiz and 7 blocks from Plaza Italia, unless my map has lied to me.

cheers

We moved from NYC to Fl to Or to BsAs all in about 3 years..
We had a car in NY and I did take taxis a lot..but here, it is quite different. NYC is tiny compared to the size of the city of BA and you can take a taxi from Palermo to Recoleta for $3-$4.
For strolling and browsing and exploring, we walk, when we want to get to a particular destination , we take a taxi.
But I do want to take the Subte..I take them in Paris and London, just not NY lol...
It was such a beautiful day today in Buenos Aires. The sun shone, the skies are an amazing blue and not one cloud. It got up to about 65 which is quite a nice temp for a winter day
