My husband and I will spend a week in BA in November. Any recommendations re: renting an apartment for the week? What neighborhood would offer a quiet experience? While not necessarily light sleepers, we don't like to hear street noise at night. Thanks.

If you look at Tripadvisor, you'll find loads of posts about apartments. Everyone has a different opinion on agencies to use. We didn't find out apartment through an agency (we used VRBO) and loved it. We stayed in Palermo Soho. The building was very quiet and we had absolutely no street noise. I am a light sleeper, so appreciated that.

During my three apartment stays in Buenos Aires, I've always lived in the Recoleta neighborhood, the one that I'd highly recommend. It's a relatively clean, upscale, safe community, and yes, indeed quiet.

<I've had five independent (certified) guides; three of them stated that Recoleta is the place to be for getting around the city easily as well as what it has to offer the portenos and portenas as well as visitors. Palermo has NO bus service.>

When I took my 3rd trip in 2007, I went through www.bairesapartments.com and rented a reasonable and attractive and comfortable apartment on Libertador & Montevideo (Code RE 792).

Go to the website, and check out some of the apartments which would appreal to you; then contact Martin, the manager directly, with your queries. He helped me greatly after I'd submitted five choices to him.

Capitol Hill:

Important considerations for quiet in rental apartments in BsAs(regardless of barrio)are:

* The floor the apt. is on - the higher the more likely to be quiet
* The direction the apt. (or at least the bedroom) faces - if it faces the back, or a garden, it will be quieter than if it faces the street.
* The distance from a major intersection
* The presence of many bus lines on the street facing.
* Double pane glass in the windows (if the apt. is facing the street)
* The proximity to Discos/Bars etc.

Good luck with your apartment search. We have found that Agents are usually willing to answer these questions.

Thanks to all for the great advice. I looked at both Tripadvisor and www.bairesapartments.com and found a dizzying assortment of apartments, most quite reasonable.

Two other reliable agencies are:
