1st time to CR need advice
Hello all
I am trying to plan a trip in the middle of July 10-20th and I wanted some opinions whether or not this is a good time to go as far as weather, tourists, etc.
Also, I was looking on some other websites that have 7-10 night guided vacation packages. Has anyone ever used these, or is it better to just book my own hotels and trips. I just started looking into cost rica and dont know a lot about it yet(except for the maind attractions of course)
Thanks!!

Either way works well for a first get acquainted visit! We like to plan ourselves, but there is a package available that I think is particularly good. The price is excellent. Check out:

I would say that it all depends on how adventurous you are. I rented a car with my wife and 1 year old son in July 2003 and toured the west and northwest coasts. It rained on us one afternoon for about an hour and then one time late at night, other than that, it was sunny and beautiful. We read and read and read about CR and found what we wanted to do before we went and it all worked out great. Others we talked to went on the guided tours and also had a great time, but they didn't have any free time to do side tours, etc. On your own, you can always hire daily guides and the people are so friendly. Speaking a little spanish really helps. Have a great time, it is an awesome country.

Hi,
July is during the rainy season, but from what Ive read it doesn't really rain all the time and July is supposed to be a drier part of the rainy season.
I have to agree with the previous poster. We love the adventure and freedom of doing it ourselves. Last year our first major trip went fabulous.
I think I bought every guide book available on CR and searched the net to the wee hours of the Morn. most nights. That was part of fun, planning the trip. These boards were a great help.
We are returning again this week for our second trip. I can't wait.
