1 night hotel between SJO and Puerto Caldera

Well, you all have been so helpful already, I figured I'd ask yet another question about my upcoming trip.

We are flying in to SJO the day before our cruise and are looking for a great place to stay. Initially we were looking at the Peace Lodge...but I understand it's in the opposite direction we need to be.

I've seen a lot of the different suggestions for places in Alejuela and are considering the Hotel Buena Vista or the Xandari Lodge. But, I was wondering if I'm missing some other location that I'm able to visit.

Our flight lands in the morning so we have all day and then we don't have to be at the port until 2:00 the next afternoon. It would be great if there were some activities near the hotel (such as trails to waterfalls, or an amazing pool and grounds. We want to feel like we're in Costa Rica...not another city in a chain hotel.

Looking forward to your help!

Tiffany

Okay, so the good news is I have a room secured at the Buena Vista...but I want to know if there's another property you all would suggest, as I can cancel the BV without penalties.

Thanks!

I've stayed at BV once. It was nice although I prefer Orquideas Inn. If you're looking for something more upscale, I think Xandari would fit what you're looking for - trails, waterfalls, pool etc.

BV wasn't bad, just very had a very hotel fell to it, the pool is rather small, and outside of the back grounds with a marvelous view, there's not much to do in the way of walking around.

Vista del Valle would also be something like what you're looking for.

Vista del Valle would be a very good choice. Not familiar with Buena Vista, but know it gets good reviews. We just loved the VdV property, hiking, waterfall, etc. Food is excellent there, and that is a big plus. Not everywhere has great food, especially in Costa Rica!

We're on the Wind Star out of Puerto Caldera for a 7-night trip in Costa Rica. We visit San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua; Quepos; Manuel Antonio; and a few other prime spots. We're very excited!
