Has anyone stayed at Hotel Seegarten, Zurich? Their hotel rooms featured in the website are quite pretty.

But I was taken aback when the hotel staff emailed me the prices for April stay: CHF259 for a medium double room at 12metres square!!! I'm not sure if this is a typo error?

Can anyone tell me if the hotel is on the quieter side of the neighbourhood? It's located at Seegartenstrasse, near Dufourstrasse.

I haven't stayed at this hotel, but below you'll find a review from TripAdvisor.com that might help.

As far as the price is concerned, I doubt it's a typo, although you don't mention the hotel's rating (3 star, 4 star, etc)

We just returned from Switzerland where we paid 195 CHF for a 3 star hotel in Luzern (off season) which based on past experience, seems to be the going rate.

Switzerland is expensive.

Just re-read your post - sounds like the "12 meters square" is definitely a typo.

I live in Zurich. The location would certainly be quiet, and there are some nice restaurants in the neighbourhood. If you are renting a car, the Europcar office is just a few blocks away. It is walkable to the Opera area and Bellevue tram stop in about 10 -15 minutes. The area is not charming cobblestone streets like the old town, but is a nice residential neighbourhood. However 12 square meters is very, very small esp for two people. For that price, I think you could find very nice accommodations with larger rooms, esp as April is not the high season and is after Easter. Run a search here for suggestions from myself and others. The Seefeld Hotel is in the same neighbourhood, is on the tram line and has larger rooms, take a look at http://www.hotel-seefeld.ch. They have a nice roof terrace. The Kindli gets great reviews here and has one of the best restaurants in town, IMO. It would probaably be noisier on a summer evening than the Seegarten, but has a great location in a charming part of the old town. Take a look at http://www.kindli.ch

Well I hope I'm not insulting you with this offering -- a nice B&B in Kuesnacht, outside Zurich. I've stayed in Kuesnacht three times, and I absolutely love it! It's about 10 minutes by s-bahn from Zurich, and it's a charming little village complete with a shops, restaurants, and a lakeside park. There are frequent trains directly to the Zurich airport from Kuesnacht (my main reason for staying here).

I've stayed at the Ermitage Hotel three times, but that's kind of pricey.

On my last visit, I had reservations at the Villa Ermitage (same owners, but not at the lake and cheaper), but the Villa decided to close for the holidays and my reservations were honored at the main hotel -- for the same price! Check it out at www.ermitage.ch (both properties).

Sorry if I wasted your time -- !! I'm a huge fan of Kuesnacht & this hotel.

I've heard about this hotel from some people who have stayed there and they raved about it.

They have a fantastic restaurant that I've tried and love.

It's a very small hotel, just across the road from the old town (I'm not 100% certain if that is still the old town). It's a good, quiet location.

I doubt they'd have a pool. Am not sure about accomodation costs either but thought I'd give you an alternative.

No, only German. Signage is not great, there are a lot of one-way streets and pedestrian-only streets. It helps to know the area of the city you are looking for or a landmark (Hautbanhof= train station), as you can follow signs for that area or landmark. One-way streets are marked in the universal non-language sign, but pedestrian only is not. It helps to learn some basic German (verbotten = forbidden, a very good one, See for lake) esp for parking as there are many restrictions. I live in Zurich and it is not a lot of fun to drive in the city, but doable. Once you get out onto highways and secondary roads, things are easier. Lots of roundabouts. Remember than unless noted, a person coming from the left has the right of way.

The Florhof is a hotel in the Romantik group. It is in a quiet neighborhood and a short walk to the old section of the city but I think you'll find the rates are considerably higher than what you may be looking for.
