Zurich Hotel 1 Night - Airport Close

Could anyone recommend a hotel in Zurich close to the airport. I dont mind to splurge but am looking for convenience. I will only be spending the night and getting up early to take a train to the airport.
My boss use to stay at the Renaissance Hotel all the time. Nice hotel right next to the airport I believe.

A nice hotel in a renovated historic building with an excellent restaurant is the Zum Goldenen Kopf in Bulach. It's about 15 minutes by taxi or express bus to the flughafen. Gets my vote for quiet last night followed by easy access to the airport. Bulach is a small town along the Zurich-Schaffhausen train route, and it has several lovely half-timbered buildings. J.

Melissa,

I would recommend the Schweizerhof, a very nice 4 star just across from the train station (on the "good" side - nice neighbourhood). There are a lot of nice restaurants within walking distance. I like Cantinetta Antinori for example.

www.hotelschweizerhof.com

A ndre

jw
I'm taking your word for it and booked the Zum Goldenen Kopf in Bulach the night before we return to the States from Zurich. I was determined not to stay in Zurich near the RR station, having done that twice. Last time after crossing all those tracks and traffic, my husband and I got separated and he went to the airport without me. I waited and waited and finally got on a train only to find him at the airport. The airline would not take his luggage until I arrived. We were all glad to see each other, tho' I was a bit peeved, to put it mildly. So I hope getting to the airport is somewhat less traumatic from Bulach. I booked this res. thru Smoothhound in the UK. Couldn't find a direct way to do it. They sent a FAX to the hotel as the hotel does not have an e-mail address.
How did you book your reservation?
We have a wonderful apartment at the Chalet Abendrot in Grindelwald for 10 days overlooking the North Face of the Eiger & the glacier. We've stayed there before and Loved it. On our first night in Switzerland we have a reservation at the Hotel Staubach in Lauterbrunnen. Tho't we'd enjoy another hike through the Lauterbrunnen Valley & maybe a quick trip to Murren before going to Grindelwald.

Hi Margie (pardon us, Melissa).

So sorry I didn't include the site in my recommendation! It's zum-goldenen-kopf.ch and I'm sure there was a 'contact us' button w/an e-mail connection. If none turns up, let me know here and I'll check back through my e-s for the e- address. The young lady who handled my reservation by e-mail was Franziska Naf, and she was at the front desk when I checked in. Even though you have made a reservation, you would probably like to confirm it directly, yes?

Yes, as much as I enjoy walking the pretty old streets in Zurich, I prefer to spend my last night in a small town. Bulach works for me, because I have easy train options into Zurich or out to Schaffausen or Stein am Rhein. I took an express bus from Bulach at about 7 a.m. It made only one or two stops and took only 15 minutes to the airport. If you'll check at the Bulach train station when you arrive, you'll see that there are buses every ten minutes or so in the morning (but try for the express). You can board the bus at the train station, but I found a more convenient bus stop closer to the hotel. You can probably locate it if you have time to stroll around the town during the evening. If my memory serves me: I walked along the hotel's main street in the direction of and past the town hall and the church (opposite direction from the walk to the bahnhof), walked by a couple of gorgeous old half-timbered buildings, a short few blocks to a traffic circle at the edge of the 'old town'. Just across the traffic circle, you should be able to see a bus stop shelter, and you can verify the bus schedule there.

On the other hand, Franziska can arrange for a taxi if you prefer. (I had already blown my budget on my room and a splurge supper.) Hope you like it. My travel standards are different from many visitors at this board. Affectionately, J.
