Betty's in Stonegate is the smaller offshoot and I don't think it has the full range of the main one. The two branches are only 100 metres apart, hence googlemap confusion. Do try a Fat Rascal, they grow on you - I even have a recipe now.

The Betty's Stonegate is also known as Little Betty's for obvious reasons! If there is a big queue at the other one, it's often worth nipping round to see if you can get into the smaller branch. The Fat Rascals are good as mentioned above, as is Yorkshire Curd tart and Parkin. My husband (a Lancashire man) swears their Eccles cakes are the best he's ever tasted.
If you are taking presents home with you, Bettys is a great place for buying beautifully wrapped gifts of tea, coffee, chocolates, biscuits etc

I agree, Morgana. I have given away many boxes of Betty's teabags - they are excellent and come in a beautiful tin, all for £6.

Forgot to add--any thoughts on whether the York Castle Museum is still worth going into if we are limited to about one hour rather than the recommended 2-3 hours?

We have seen Victorian street recreations before in other museums but this one is supposed to be authentic remnants of an original street and truly one of a kind. That plus the other everyday items from past generations are fun to see. In Washington D.C. they recreated Julia Childs Kitchen at the American History Museum and it is a great exhibit.

You're right. No guided tour times at the York Minster site. It must depend on the availability of volunteers.

As to whether the Castle Museum is worth some of your limited time, depends on your interests. The museum has lifesize dioramas about everyday life at different points in history. I found it very well done.
