Winte rtrip - one day open
I will be in York on Sunday February 8th. I have been to York a few times and have seen most of whats to visit. So, any recommendations to see in or out of York using public transportation.

I don't know if this would interest you but Eden Camp in Malton has a museum on Britain's war experience...WWII. I've haven't been, only heard about it. I believe you can catch a coastliner bus from the train station.
The website for the bus is www.yorkshirecoastliner.co.uk For Eden Camp www. edencamp.co.uk
There's always Whitby if you haven't been there yet.

How about Beverley, for its two fine medieval churches, the Minster and St. Mary's, a number of excellent pubs and a generally pleasant out-of-the-way market town?
Bus (East Yorkshire bus company)is normally the best way to get there, but service is limited on Sunday. I presume that you will have your usual railpass, so train to Hull, changing there to Beverley, would be the way to go.

There are frequent trains from York to Leeds. Maybe not the first place you would think of visiting as a tourist but lots to see and do. Superb shopping, art galleries and museums. Royal Armouries, Thackray Museum for example. It’s a really lively and vibrant city – I work there and love it. Lots more info here -

Alternatively you could catch a train to the spa town of Harrogate – again good shopping, nice gardens if the weather is fine, Pump Room Museum, Mercer Art Gallery etc. Or perhaps the famous Turkish baths?

Meant to add - there is a new museum in Leeds too. Haven't yet been but I hear good reports from those who have. It's about 7 or 8 mins walk from the railway station.

I have been to the Armouries though - you could spend hours in there, excellent place.
