Wine shops in venice

Calling all other wine drinkers. Going to venice next month, and was wondering any recommendations on where to shop for some wine, was thinking of bringing home a few good bottles of soave/ vapoicella?

I heard of the following place on this board...we purchased a couple of bottles there; the staff was very friendly and helpful:

Vini al Bottegon Cantinone (San Trovaso 992, Accademia side of the canal)

We have no class--we bought several bottles of inexpensive white wine in the grocery store, and loved them.

I stumbled upon a lovely shop near the Accademia bridge somewhere. With an extremely nice salesman. I pointed out a reasonable priced white on the shelf, and they offered me a similar but cold one from the frig in back. They also opened it since I didn't have a corkscrew with me. Somehow we accomplished this without me understanding Italian or their speaking English. This was among the first things I did upon arrival while waiting to check into my hotel.

suze, I think your wine shop is the same that alg speaks of... definitely one of the best wine shops in Venice. They also have really good prices on liquor. (And great crostini, and...)

Here are a couple more wine shops - Drogheria Mascari is a store that sells herbs, teas, coffee, and other gourmet items, plus they have a wine and liquor room in the back. It's near the fish market at Ruga d. Speziali 381.

There is a really nice wine shop near Campo San Lio in Castello but I can't remember the name. To find it stand in the Campo facing the bar L'Olandese Volante. Turn around and walk straight down the calle right in front of you and the wine store is right there.

There is a new wine store (with high prices) at the back of Campo San Bartolomeo, by the public bathrooms, and another new store in Campo Santa Marina (by new I mean they opened in the last couple of years.) But for the best prices and selection, head to store that Cantinone alg and suze mention.

We just wander the streets until we find enotecas we like, go in try out several wines and buy a bottle or two of what we enjoyed. Then, off to look for the next one...

Cheers,
Jan

Your name is Gaja and you're asking how to find a good wine store in Italy of all places?

Just in case you're not aware, ...

Morena, Matteo & Mauro have an excellent selection of reasonably priced wines. Trust their judgement....and you'll walk away with some terrific wines!!

Bailey.. Thanks a lot..

Morena, Matteo & Mauro.. Are they owners of the shop? Will be looking forward to getting my hands of some fine proseccos and soaves....

Heard that wine sold in caskes, by refilling the empty bottles, is widely available there? Are they any good?

Great information here. We are cruising with a party of 4-6 for two weeks out of Venice in July, and (as usual) we bring our own wine on board, averaging 2/3 bottle per person per night. I could ship from my wine cellar there, but will be in Venice for 3 days ahead of time. Definitely interested in good Venice wine shops that stock Tuscan reds and magnums.
I will find most of the places in this forum thread, but would appreciate and followups (especially from timgaja)
