Recommendation for a Wine Bar/Wine Shop in Rome?
My DH and I will be in Rome and would like the name of a wine shop where we can purchase wines that are hard to find in the US (we live in the Boston area). On a previous trip to Venice, I got a great recommendation on this forum for a wine shop on the San Travaso with an excellent selection of wines. We are limited to buying about 10 bottles (that's all that our wine boxes which we will check will hold). Are there any wine lovers out there who can recommend a wine shop in Rome with a good selection? Thanks.

This wine shop near Piazza del Parlamento is where I found an Umbrian wine after looking in half-a-dozen others:
ENOTECA AL PARLAMENTO
Enoteca Achilli Srl
00186 Roma (RM)
15, VIA DEI PREFETTI
tel: 06 68307013, 06 6873446
There's also a largish one on Corso Vittorio Emanuele towards the Tiber end.
Both of these are wine shops, not wine bars.

Buccone on Via di Ripetta is also good. So is Casa Bleve:

They will also sell olive oils.

Oh dear. Right down the street from our hotel The Empire Palace was a beautiful wine store/wine bar. It was gorgeous inside and when my DH and I peeked in (we don't drink) they were so friendly and asked us to come in and take a look around. I will try to find the name of the place and get back with you.
Yeah! Your going to Roma!!!!

One of the biggest, or maybe the biggest is TRIMANI in Via Goito.
After the corner of the street, in Via Cernaia it becomes wine bar.
Its location is close to Termini station and very close to Porta Pia.
Then, very good also LA VECCHIA BOTTEGA DEL VINO, close to Pantheon, in Via S. Maria del Pianto.

Thanks for all the great responses. You've given us lots to check out. While surfing the web, my DH came across a wine bar/shop called Il Vineto located on the Via Veneto. Can anyone provide any feedback Il Vineto and how it may compare to some of the others mentioned? Thanks again!

I don't know Il Vineto, but my instinct is to distrust anything on the Via Veneto - likely to be overpriced.
I think you would do better with any or all of the others mentioned. I would just check out one or two that are convenient to your accommodations; they are pretty much all over the map.

Ah, thanks Zerlina! My husband had a feeling that, while Il Vineto likely has a good selection, the impression he got from the article is that it could be on the expensive side. This is why I like Fodors - you get good feedback from people who know.
