"Wide" messages

Why do some of the messages cover such a wide space on the screen that I cannot read them without moving the entire section over at the end of each line? It doesn't happen on all. Is there something I can do from my end to remedy it? Thanks.

There is nothing you can do about it. As I understand it, that happens when someone has a post with a very long word in it that runs longer than about 35 characters. The website will naturally break lines at spaces (blanks) when they can, but won't break up one long single "word".

Usually, that "word" is a website someone posts on the thread. The system treats the web address as one "word" and extends the margin on the thread to accommodate it. When I post long links, I try to break it up into 2 or 3 lines.

By the way, Marty, the best way to read a "wide thread" is to go to the bottom and click "post a reply". You don't have to reply, but that will bring up the thread in a more readable form.

I might add that the way to post a long URL so it doesn't stretch out the display is to take it to tinyurl.com and convert it to something more manageable.

A few of the responses above were about long thread titles - but I think the OP was asking about text that spreads out (Like in Barb's famous trip report)

So just to claify -

- titles w/ no breaks over approx 32 characters will screw up the thread list window (like in Voyager's example)

- and very long url's screw up the text/messages w/i a thread. Unfortunately - most people who post those super long url's know better, but by the time they post it it is too late to fix.

Thank you all! It was Barb's message
that was so hard to read. I
finally just gave up.When I brought
up this box, the messages to the left
were too wide!
