Why not fly to ....

IRAQ !!!

Go ahead. It's an open invitation to all those liberals who say that Iraq is not a world security threat. And that Sodom Hussein is just a misunderstood leader. And that the USA should back off and let that country do what it wants without any outside intervention. And that the world would be safer if the USA just concerned itself with its own territory.

Have a nice trip.

(And if you get in any trouble in Iraq, or any other country, please don't call the US government looking for assistance. Thank you.)

Nice post.
I like your sarcasm.

Let's see if Fodorites are realists, or ultra-libs.

Question: If somehow magically the entire mid-east were wiped off the map overnight, would the would be (A) a better place, (B) a worse place, or (C) no change?

Answer: A (If you disagree, fly to Iraq on a one-way ticket.)

Hey YAWN, your moniker says it all. Wake up to reality dude.

Yeah, the US should stay at home. And leave the rest of the world to fend for itself. Let's see, oh if we had done that in WW-2, all of Europe would be speaking German now. And all of Asia would be speaking Japanese.

Have a nice dreamworld day.

This post is not travel related but I am a liberal and believe we should blow Iraq to bits. Why are you so angry? Try to get a hold of yourself.

Q-1: When was the last time an American hijacked a jumbo jet and flew it into an office building?

Q-2: When was the last time an American bombed a nightclub full of tourists?

Q-3: When was the last time threw a hand grenade into a house of worship?

Q-4: When was the last time an American strapped a bomb to himself and detonated it in a market or bus?

You get the idea.

Mary,
Instead of making that suggestion, why don't you go ahead and enlighten us on world history? I don't see anything in Not Yawning's memo that is inaccurate. It's true the US didn't win WW II by itself, but it's just as true that without the US it never would have been possible to defeat Germany. The Russian front might have been a stalemate but it's highly unlikely Great Britain could have avoided being occupied by Germany, never mind actually winning.

It's amazing hearing you talk about threats (especially coming from people whose country is the only one that has attacked with 2 nuclear bombs civilian cities.

The US is the only country to have done a lot of things, like defeat communisn, create a Pax Americana for crappy little ingrates around the world, stop the slaughter in the Balkans, invent free market capitalistic democracy, and so on, but as for Japan, those weren't civilian cities and their destruction is 100% percent the fault of the emperor and the militaristic gov't. They were warned and didn't listen ... sort of like what's happening today, now that I think about it.
