White Christmas
Hi....I also am looking for a White Christmas destination to take our daughter, her husband and their 4 year old son. Not this Christmas but next I realize you need to be prepared. However, I would prefer a chalet some where in France or maybe Italy. We plan to fly into Geneva and higher a car and would like some where within a 2 hour drive.
Any suggestions?

Well, France is likely to be much less expensive than Switz. And what activities do you want - skiing, family snow activities, other?
In any case be prepared to pay big $ at the ski resorts - esp at Christmas.
And I think you want to rent a car (or hire if you must).

Don't know where you are from but you could go to Banff Springs Hotel at Christmas.
They had Chalets and the Hotel is really done up at Christmas.

If you just want a white Christmas, the Alps are fine, but if you want to ski, snow can be scarce in December. Canada might be more of a sure thing. Weather and snow predictions are always iffy especially at the beginning of the season. Banff is nice and Quebec is like being in France although, arguably a bit colder.

What about somewhere in France near Mont Blanc? From Geneva it is a one hour drive to Chamonix but if you stay outside in a smaller town the prices go down. The tunnel into Italy stays open all year, and it is about an hour's drive to Aosta, which is a fantastic town to visit (all flat, Roman ruins, probably with a Christmas market, and of course great Italian food!)
Typically there is snow around Chamonix or access to it during the Christmas season. No guarantees, but chances are above 50-50.

A lot depends on whether you want to ski or just have snow on the ground...
I think if you could fly into Zurich or increase your 2-hours-from-Geneva limit, you'd have more options for reliable snow for skiing in December.
