Which Italian Destination Should we visit first?
My DH and I are planning a trip to Italy in Sept 2009. We plan on visiting Venice, Capri, and the Amalfi coast. I believe Delta flys in and out of Venice and Naples. I thought we should fly to Venice for 2-3 night stay, then travel to Capri. Do we take take the train from Venice to Naples and them a ferry to Capri??? After a 3 night stay on Capri, we will take a ferry to Positano for our remaing stay on the AC. Then flying out of Naples back to the states. Does this sound like the best route? Any other suggestions on how to get from Venice to Capri? Should we do the trip in reverse and fly to Naples first? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi d,
It is easier to get to VCE from Venice than to NAP from Positano, unless you are willing to hire a limo - about 110E.
Check the schedules out of Venice VCE.
If you find an acceptable one, then fly INTO Naples.
Otherwise, stick with your original plan.
Enjoy your visit.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Not certain, which route, but siding towards arriving in Venice first. One suggesion was to fly from Vencie to Naples rather than taking the train. I need some help with this one. Where do I look for these flights? Any particular website. Also which website do I use to review the ferry schedule from Naples to Capri? Thanks again for your help!

There really aren't any budget flight options from Venice to Naples at this time on whichbudget. The cheapest flights you will find will be on Alitalia or Air One. I looked at these the other day for someone for an Oct. 2008 date and it was $169 one way (flight 1 hr 15 minutes - train 7 hours). Who knows what the schedules and costs will be for 2009. You can't book flights or ferries that far in advance. Ferries usually don't release their summer schedule until late March or April.
I would put Venice first because of weather and the extremely early flights to the US from there.
