My favorite is also J.K. Place Firenze. Marina, Angela, Carmen, and the rest of the staff do a great job. It feels more like a comfortable home than a hotel. But it will stretch your 500 EURO budget.

Some of the other luxury hotels in the area - and most are already mentioned - include:

Four Seasons Hotel, Florence
Hotel Helvetia & Bristol
Il Salviatino
Hotel Lungarno
J.K. Place Firenze
St. Regis, Florence
Rocco Forte Hotel Savoy, Florence
The Westin Excelsior, Florence
Portrait Firenze
Villa San Michele, An Orient-Express Hotel

I can't wait to see the Portrait Firenze which opens in the Spring. If you've ever stayed at the Portrait Suites in Rome (as ekc has), you know the Lungarno Collection is "top of the line." But it will also challenge the 500 EURO mark. (They are projected to start about 530 EURO).

As almost all these hotels are Virtuoso hotels, you might check that site/contact a Virtuoso TA to see if they are running any specials (and get the free Virtuoso Amenities).

Il Salviatino is running a special where you get great additional amenities (through 12/31). The Four Seasons Firenze is running a 3rd night free through March 2014 - which might get you down to the 500 EURO mark... (well, maybe). Villa San Michele just ended a family special and will surely run another - they offered a huge discount on a 2nd room - which helps lower the price of two rooms.

So there are ways to offset some of these luxury hotel prices. All of these are excellent hotels. For "old world" luxury I like the St. Regis. The Lungarno has great views of the Arno. Villa San Michele is a unique property just outside Florence (they have a shuttle!) If you want to be close, but not in the bustle of Florence, it's a great option. And an OE hotel!

Like Tulip. I absolutely love the Antica Torre di Tornabuoni. The staff is wonderful and the hotel is a "bargain" - well, a relative bargain!

As you can see, for such a compact area, there are MANY 500+ EURO hotels in Florence! Yes, these hotels are not for every budget, but if you're looking for 500 EURO (or more) hotels, there are some great choices in and just outside the city!

Wow, what great responses. Being a poster on this forum since the early "Ben Haines" days, it is always like old friends and I having a traveling conversation. Many Thanks to all of you. Decision time coming up.

I'd stay at the Hotel Lungarno in a deluxe room overlooking the river - with a balcony if you plan to be there during warm weather.

Conher, if you're going soon - like before Christmas - the St. Regis is running a "fourth night free" through Dec. 30th for specific room types.

The Four Seasons Firenze is selling "Three nights for the price of two" from December 1, 2013 through March 31, 2014 (There are some blackout dates and it applies to specific room classes, depending on when you book).

Not sure if those discounts will get you below the 500 EURO mark but both hotels also offer many additional "free" amenities to entice you... And "free" is relative as you ARE PAYING for them by spending 500+ EURO!

StCirq, congrats!!
Good to "see" you back.

As for the 500 euro/night budget suggestion...sorry, no idea. Never looked into that kind of hotels, but I'm sure there are quite a few in that range. I would pick based on location and view, and not necessarily amenities.

I don't think you are going to pay so that much, but one of the most luxury ones I can think about is Best Western Hotel River in Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia close to Santa Croce http://www.hotelriver.com/en/ pics speak for themselves

Definitely Palazzo Magnani Feroni in Borgo San Frediano. Just to say: breakfast is served by waiters with white gloves under a ceiling coming from Palazzo Farnese in Rome and the most tiny suite is 65 sqm http://www.palazzomagnaniferoni.com/. Splurge but unforgettable stay.
