Where to stay in Rome
I really need to know what area to stay in Rome. I want to be in a central location. I've already cancelled a reservation in the Villa Borghese area because someone stated(on this board) that I would have to take a taxi everywhere. I want to be able to step out of my hotel and go....
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

The Pink Room & the Green Room are the largest. The Pink Room has an ensuite bathroom (think Green does, too), with both tub & shower & the tub was huge. The bed in the Pink Room is a king-sized. I stayed in the Pink Room in January, just loved it! If you'd like more info, e-mail me directly.

BC

Just returned from the Casa Howard - read my trip report, just posted. We stayed in the Green room. It does have a private bathroom with shower, but no tub.
Easy walk everywhere, and if you dont feel like walking as far as the Colosseum or Vatica, you can hop on the metro 2 blocks away from the hotel.

- Alice

I've always found so bizarre that people have the money to pay for a round-trip plane ticket to Italy ( or anywhere in europe)and hotel accomodations but balk at the thought of taking a couple of taxis!!!!! the fact that you cancelled going to the Villa Borghese, which by cab from any hotel in the city wouldn't be more than $5, is ludicrous! BTW, you could probably walk to the Galleria Borghese from any centrally located hotel in rome . It would just take some time and I wouldn't recommend it in the heat of the summer. But, hey!, anything to save those $5!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!

Hotel Genio was very well located, pratically a around the corner to Piazza Navona. You're right about not wanting to catch a taxi, especially in Rome because it's very difficult to flag one down on the street. You'd usually get your hotel or restaurant to call you a taxi...etc...not very convenient. We love the freedom to walk around and be centrally located. Hotel Genio was excellent! Bathroom very clean, pizza shop next door, lots of restaurants nearby, a few streets away from the supermarket, laundry and you can catch the bus from just outside the hotel. You can catch the bus to the colloseum, piazza venenzia, spanish steps..etc with transfers. Walk to the trevi fountain (10 mins), pantheon (5 mins)...Love the location! You can even walk to the vatican, maybe 15 minutes. Love being able to walk to a different restaurant every night!

Last time we were there, we booked through Leonardi's hotel group, I think they are part of this chain.
http://www.leonardihotels.com/Genio/

Depends on when you go, peak season can be over $200. They claim to be a 4* hotel, although in Europe, a 4* doesn't really mean that much. The hotel was very nice, nice rooms, but as with all the hotels we've stayed at, they all have small rooms.
We emailed them with our details ([email protected]) and got a reply. We then call the hotel a few days later to make sure that the hotel got our reservation, everything was great. BTW the breakfast buffet was the best breakfast we had on our Euroup trip, including Paris, Venice and Florence. If you have any other questions about Rome, feel free to post here.
