Where to Stay between Nice and San Remo

Hello all

We are staying with friends in Turin this October (flying into Nice).

Could anyone suggest a smallish town on the coast to stay for 2 nights, we would prefer to avoid modern(ish) resorts with row after row of apartment blocks.

This is one of the few areas of the Mediterranean coast we haven't visited and know little about it.

A suggestion for a smallish good quality hotel for around e150 a night would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

We like Menton---a beauitiful town with tons of flowers.
Look for hotels at menton.com---we liked Prince des Galles.

Take the route via Cuneo to/from Torino---very pretty.

Thanks Bob

I will do some research on Menton from google maps it looks lovely. I had a quick look at some of the coast and once you discount Nice, Cap Ferrat and Monaco (not our scene) , there just seems to be town after town of apartments hemmed in by the road/train track.

Have you been to Cap Ferrat? Is is ridiculously over the top?seem to remember something about it being France's answer to Portofino.

Found this :

what do you think?

I may be mad but is there an interesting town to visit in the hills up from the coast where the government removed the population and over time artists moved back in. Am I mad? I seem to remember reading something about this years ago.

Menton also rings a bell for some reason.

We love Menton, too. We stayed a few times at the Hotel Napoleon. We also have stayed in Ville-franche-sur-mer but we rented apartments. Lovely place, too!

Eze is up in the hills and a nice place to visit - not sure if that is what you are thinking of.

That wasn't the town, I will remember it when someone mentions it.

Do you know anywhere in Cap Ferrat (hotel) which is reasonable (e150 a night). It looks beautiful but I am well aware that it is one of the most expensive areas on the planet.

Cap Ferrat is beautiful and close to Ville-franche-sur-mer which has a hotel or two as well. I have never stayed in Cap Ferrat so I can't recommend a hotel there.

I highly recommend Bordighera, Italy and Villa Elisa. It is a beautiful little town and the hotel is wonderful!
