where to leave a car in Venice for two days

Hi. I'm thinking of driving to Venice (as part of a longer itinerary) and I'm wondering where I can leave the car for a couple of days. Does anyone know any parking lot / garage in Mestre? or somewhere else? Proximity to public transportation to Venice is key.

Right in Venice itself there is a humungous parking gargage where most visitors park - not far from the Piazzale Roma bus depot.

Thanks PalQ. Do you know what is the name of the garage? Would you recommend driving into Venice or leave the car maybe in Mestre?

Take the car to the garage at the Piazzele Roma - right at the end of the causeway into Venice. You can get public transport into the center of the city right there.

Hi M,

You can park at the train station in Mestre for about 5E/day. Train to Venice SL is 1E.

Piazzale Roma is about 20E/day.

As usual, Ira is correct.

Yes Mestre might be my choice as well - much cheaper and train takes you right to near Grande Canale in few minutes - constant shuttle trains. But key may be driving into the Pzle Roma garage can mean long lines in season getting across the causeway to the garage. Mestre seems easier in easier out and cheaper. Don't leave valuables in your car.

I'll try to park in Mestre then. I'm a bit concerned though that, since I'll arrive late afternoon, all the spots at the train station parking will be taken. Any experience? sorry for dragging this on.

Hi matt,

You would face that problem at P. Roma as well.

Going to Mestre first is better than going to PR first.

Thanks Ira. I believe at P.le Roma or Tronchetto you can reserve. At the Mestre station you can't. Anyway, I called Mestre and was told there should be places. So Mestre station it is.
