cost to park a car in Venice
We have a good rate from Autoeurope for a car rental for a week.
Because of the rate, we have decided to go to Venice from Florence, stay 3 days, and return to Tuscany for a few more days.
Can someone advise as to the daily parking rates in Mestre near the train station, as I understand that they are less expensive than parking in Piazzale Roma.
Also, are the rates at the Tronchetto parking lot competitive?
Thanks, as always.

Funny you should ask that, as my friend in Venice keeps his car at a parking lot right across the street from the Mestre train station, and he told me this is what Venetians do- we were just talking about parking rates-and we jumped on the train in Venice, got off at Mestre, and picked up his car last Friday at the garage across the street for our little drive to Vicenza and Asolo. He said it was much more inexpensive than Piazzale Roma, and Tronchetto, and he didn't like Tronchetto, because it was too far away. (he lives in San Polo, close to Pze. Roma, so he prefers to park there-but it is expensive).
I'll email him and ask him what the Mestre rates are, since he parks there on a monthly basis. I can tell you that Tronchetto is less expensive than Pze. Roma, but obviously, the latter is closer to Venice.

I will, he's in Lyon right now. Never, did you see this site on the rates at Tronchetto? I don't think they've been updated-I think it's more expensive than 18E a day now.

Never, I just heard back from my friend in Venice. He says cost of daily parking in the garage across from the train station is 4-4.50 Euro a day. Maybe it's a bit cheaper for him because he's a resident? Anyway, that's pretty cheap.

hi, never,
have you thought of turning in your car when you get to Venice, then re-renting when you leave? Alternatively, train from Florence to Venice, then pick up car on leaving Venice.
regards, ann

No, no, that's the normal rate for everybody: 4.50 per day. Important though that you find the right parking; the garage PRECISELY across the street from the station (was 4.50 per day for many many years but has a new owner for a year or so now and) is slightly more expensive. The place where you're paying 4.50 is an open (but 24-hours guarded) parking not directly opposite but diagonally opposite the train station - between the hotels Trieste and Bologna.

Then he's paying a resident's tariff - the garage has a different tariff on weekends and the rest of the week, but it comes to an average of 6 Euros or so. Nevertheless, the 4.50 are available for everyone, at the open parking.
