After searching this site extensively (and much pleasure reading in anticipation of our trip!) I would like some advice:<BR><BR>After spending 5 days in Paris this May my husband and I are going to Geneva to visit a friend for the weekend. We will fly out of Paris the following Friday and want to know where to spend the interim 4 days:<BR><BR>We are thinking Beaune and either Dijon or Lyon. Or should we spend more time around Geneva? (We have previously visited Annecy and loved it)<BR><BR>(Personal info: we are a young couple, big foodies, like hiking/biking...)<BR><BR>Thanks!

When I read your post title I was thinking Lyon. It's a 2 hour TGV ride (and a MUCH longer drive!) from Paris. Great place for wonderful food. Plenty of walking, I don't know about biking there. Maybe you could get out into the countryside for a ride. Or save the cycling for Lake Geneva.

If you're willing to use train travel and you're already IN Switzerland I would take advantage of the proximity of many places that might suit your needs, particularly the hiking part.

Hello RobinM,<BR><BR>I'm a huge fan of Lake Geneva, so I have to suggest that you spend those four days in Montreux at the Lake. <BR><BR>You would probably enjoy biking the 32-km vineyard path between Lausanne &amp; Vevey as well as the 11-km lakeside path between Vevey and Villeneuve. You can explore the Chillon castle and the medieval village of Lutry, sample the wines at the local caves, go to Gruyeres for the castle and the creme double, take ferry rides on the Lake, and take mountain excursions to Leysin or Gstaad. There's a 3-star Michelin restaurant, Le Pont de Brent, in a suburb of Montreux.<BR><BR>O, I could go on and on. . . . <BR><BR>Have fun reading &amp; researching!<BR><BR>s

I think the combination of walking/biking possibilites between Lausanne and Vevey, and the mountains so close, make Lyon a perfect contrast. Put Grasshopper's and S's suggestions together and you've got a perfect plan. But what if you're driving? Then you need one more little stopover between Lyon and Paris. What about Auxerre or Avallon?
