Where to get Topographic Maps in Montreux?
I will be spending some time in Montreux next month and plan to some hiking and birding nearby. Can anyone tell me where to obtain topographic maps in (or near) Montreux?

Hi Gavin,
I'm happy to give you a bit of help -- because I've had the same problem of finding good, detailed maps for hiking & biking around Montreux. In Montreux, I didn't find much besides tourist shops & maps to locate hotels!
The best place I found was Librairie La Fontaine in Vevey, off of the Pl. du Marche. It was tucked into a corner pretty much catty-corner to the lake, on the left as you face the lake. The address is: Rue du Lac 47.
Have fun!

swandav, did you take a look at Payot on Avenue du Casino in Montreux? It is a chain book stores and 2 shops in Geneva have great selection including maps for hikers in various swiss areas. On the photo, Montreux shop does not look tiny and I think it's worth taking a look.
Gavin, if you want to be sure, you can send an e-mail to the shop via the following page. That's in English.

Hi kappa,
I'm pretty sure I popped in there (I'm always running around Ave du Casino), but Payot doesn't stick in my mind at all. It would be more convenient for Gavin, I'm sure! I just liked this little place in Vevey, a hole in the wall where no one spoke English . . .

I bought a very helpful map of the surroundings of Montreux in a tiny shop/kiosk at the main street by the lake. I cannot recall correctly but I guess it was between the covered market building and the elevator to the railway station.
The map has the title "Hauts de Montreux", subtitle "itinéraraires pédestres" and covers the area from Villeneuve in the south to Les Planches (almost Montbovon) in the East, Dent de Lys in the North and Clarens in the West. The scale is 1:25,000 - very detailed and the price was only CHF 9.50
It is perfect for hikes around Rochers-de-Naye and Dent de Jaman as well as Les Pleiades - Les Avants.
