Calling Swandav, Cicerone & other Montreux enthusiasts
I remember someone had made a list of all their favourite things to do in the Montreux, Vevey etc area - It was pasted on these boards a couple of times, but can't seem to find it now.. Does anyone remember whose post it was?

Hi Lisa123,
How flattering for me to be needed!!
I'm not at home, so I don't have access to my saved list of activities. However, I did find one of my old posts, so here you go:

Here's a quicky list off the top of my head:
Vevey Saturday morning open air farmers market in the town square
Montreux Friday morning market (smaller version of Vevey's)
Anything having to do with walking or eating along the quai (lakeside promonade)
Walk up into the Old Town of Montreux
Castle of Chateau de Chillon outside Montreux
Tram called Roche de Nayes up the mountain leaving from the Montreux train station
Anything to do with a boat on Lac Leman
Sampling local made wines
Eating at small cafes and/or shopping in the central old town part of Vevey (walking distance heading basically toward the lake from the train station)

You guys are the best!!! Suze, sorry you were left off the heading! We are due to go to Vevey next weekend and my husband is coincidentally in Geneva for work today (first time) and called to tell me how incredible the Lake looks (weather is apparently gorgeous today) so I have told him how all the Fodorites say that we'll enjoy even better views of it from Vevey & Montreux.. we are both beyond excited now.

I would definitely second both Chillon and the trip up to Rochers de Naye. However, I would recommend a trip by BOAT from say, Ouchy below Lausanne, to any of these places as an approach. The ferries begin more frequent services in April, usually, so this may be a bit early.
The trip up to Rochers de Naye is easy to do and offers spectacular views over Lac Leman; unfortunately the weather can be perfect in Montreux and totally whited out at the top (which is what happened to us when we did this last April) but the trip up and down was fun nonetheless.

Lisa, I am
with envy! I was in Lausanne two weeks ago and spent an afternoon in Montreux with friends. I never read reports about Switzerland thinking "I don't ski. Why bother". Shame on me. I ended up there on a total fluke (and for free!) and must go back. It is so beautiful. You will have a wonderful time and please do a report!

Gomiki, Interesting you say that as I've mentioned to a couple of people that we're spending the Easter weekend in Switzerland and they assume I'm going skiing (an odd assumption as I'm 6 months pregnant!) and when I say no they say "but then why Switzerland?" - so def. seems like that area is a bit of a hidden secret, at least among Londoners, So excited to see the lake & mountain views after reading these boards .. Will def do a report! Lisa
