Where to eat in Rome

I will be in Rome for five days and nights this winter/spring and I am looking for suggestions on good places to eat for Italian and other types of food. I have been to Rome before and know a few places near my Hotel that I like, but I want to try a few new places this time. Thank you for any suggestions you might have. Also any suggestions for gelato or a place to have wine or drinks.

I can recommend a nice wine bar for drinks and hors d'oeuvres: Cul de Sac on the Piazza Pasquino, next door to L'Insalata Ricca. (Round the corner from Piazza Navona.) For that matter, I like L'Insalata Ricca for lunch or dinner.

Two restaurants that we enjoyed that aren't mentioned much here are Obika (Via dei Prefetti, 26a - Piazza Firenze) and Il Baccaro (Via degli Spanoli). Obika is a mozzerella bar, where you can try many different kinds of mozzerella as well as wonderful proscuitto. Here is a review on Context Rome's website, which gives a great description of it: http://rome2.contexttravel.com/stati...efdd81fe714c6d.

Il Baccaro is a wonderful little restaurant (reservations required). We had a wonderful fagioli soup, and my daughter's pasta dish with shrimp was one of our best on the trip.

After many trips to different gelateria our family of four agreed our favorite was Cremeria Monteforte (via della rotunda, 22 - literally a stone's throw away from the Pantheon). A smaller gelateria with delicous gelato - between the four of us we tried many flavors - and a gracious owner.

Here's another vote for Cremeria Monteforte. I was sitting here trying to remember the name, because I always go there...what luck someone else loves it too! "Stracciatella e 'bacio' con panne, per favore."
